Hello Moya

How Our Spring Break Went From Cool To Boring

Spring break is an anticipated holiday for college students in the United States. It has been my favorite one after the end-of-year holidays – Summer does not even compete – trust me it is not about the length, it’s more about the timing. In Texas this year, Spring Break was the second week of March. Such a relief from school and a great way to catch up on your classes, which can sometimes be very overwhelming.

Together with the girls this year, we decided to do something new, something big unlike the previous year’s breaks: Traveling! – We were all excited but unfortunately, things did not go as planned.

It all started with the schedule: our dates did not align. I happened to have events and the girl’s work schedules were on the cutboard.

This ended up being a minor because we found a good day that worked for all.

JELLYSTONE PARK, BURLESON, TEXAS

Oyin found this “cool” place on TikTok, a water amusement park right outside of Dallas so we could all go and have some fun since we couldn’t make it to Miami, Florida.

On D-day, we were all happy and couldn’t wait to finally leave Dallas: Oyin’s wish for weeks now, the girl just wanted to leave that toxic city and we understood.

We left Dallas around 11 am and by 1 pm, we were in Burleson. We packed food and water, sunscreen, sunglasses, lotions, swimming towels, phones, and cameras all excited.

The vibe in the car was great, the playlists, dances, videos, and pictures. It was cool and fun.

(Leave my fake American accent alone.)

We got the the place and that’s where things started going left. First of all, the atmosphere and vibe weren’t just that.

The place was very quiet for an amusement park but we did not care; Afterall, who needs people to set the vibe, when we are the vibe.

We walked into the reception office and got the tickets, still excited even though we learned that the big water slide was out of order. We drove down to the center, parked, and started getting all hyped about the cool things we were about to do.

THERE WERE NOTHING TO DO!

The place was empty, all closed. Pools and activities are closed. Except for one big playground room for the children.

We were confused, the lady at the reception, Stephanie mentioned that the big water slide was closed for maintenance but there were 2 pools currently open and some cool stuff to do in the backyard of the center.

The pool was dry, dryer than the Sahara. We made our way back to the reception to have some explanations as to why is everything closed and that is when we got told that the park was closed due to the weather and would not open until summer.

Excuse us? What do you mean it is closed? And you still went ahead and sold us the tickets? $35 just like that? Miss Ma’am!

I mean, we of course get it, even our apartment pools do not open until summer; What we however did not understand was why we were told that everything was working perfectly a day before going there when we called to have information about the tickets.

Oyin spoke on the phone with their customer service for minutes and the lady on the line was even asking for our card details to purchase the tickets because apparently, their website had an issue – what in the cute scam is that? Of course, we did not share our card details.

We then asked to be refunded and left the office. We were pissed off. Driving 1 hour to enjoy our day just to do nothing. Oyin had to wake up as early as 6 am to cook and get ready, and me too.

We sat down in the car, ate our packed lunches, and drove back to Dallas.

TURNER FALLS, OKLAHOMA

Please, if you are reading this and know Oyin, please please please, buy her ice cream and hug her.

Saturday, March 16th was the chosen day for the road trip to Davis, Oklahoma to go hiking and swim in Turner Falls.

Davidzo, Oyin, Kofo, and I with a few other friends were all excited about this one. But it did not happen.

The indecision. We didn’t know if we should do a same-day trip or the whole weekend. One party wanted to stay over in Oklahoma for 1 night while the other party couldn’t.

The weather. It then started raining – which I thought would be very dangerous for driving, hiking, and swimming.

The disinterest. The excitement was all gone due to all the changes made to that trip planning so we ended up canceling it.

And that’s it, that’s how our spring break went from sunny to cloudy.
